15 Gunned down at Honduran factory

Tegucigalpa, Agency
At least 15 people were shot to death Tuesday at a shoe factory in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula, police said.

The chief of the National Police in San Pedro Sula, Hector Mejia, confirmed to reporters that 13 people died at the scene and two others in a nearby public hospital.

He said that the victims were all males between the ages of 17 and 24 who were at work when they were attacked.

Mejia emphasized that the causes and circumstances surrounding the massacre are still "not known," but media accounts said that it was perpetrated by several armed men who arrived at the site and afterwards fled in an automobile.

"We hope that in the shortest time possible, tonight or in the morning, we'll have a clearer version" of what occurred, the police commander said.
