Buenos Aires, Agency
Argentine actress Romina Yan, who achieved international fame as the star of television programs like the soap opera "Chiquititas," died after suffering a heart attack, associates said. She was 36.
Yan, who was also a singer and dancer, died at the Hospital Central in the Buenos Aires suburb of San Isidro.

The announcement of the actress's death prompted a wave of messages from her fans on the social networks and statements of deep sadness from within the artistic world.

"I just learned about Romina Yan and I can't believe it. How sad!" said singer Diego Torres via Twitter in sending condolences to the actress's family.

Yan suddenly began feeling sick, then fainted and was taken immediately to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to press accounts.

The mother of three children and wife of Dario Giordano, the actress had planned to make a return to television in the very near future.

Her most recent work on the small screen had been in 2007 in the comedy "Bella & Bestia."

She made her television debut in 1991 as a dancer on the game program for teenagers "Jugate conmigo," hosted by her mother, Cris Morena.

In 1994, after appearing as an actress on the programs "Mi cuñado" and "Quereme," she landed her first starring role in "Chiquititas," a soap opera for children that achieved great success in Latin America and Israel.

"It happens to me that I go out on the street and they tell me that I'm part of their childhood, that they've been following me since 'Jugate' and 'Chiquititas,' and that's very powerful," Yan told Buenos Aires's Radio 10 last Friday in what turned out to be her last interview.
