Ecuador on Monday called on the Organization of American States (OAS) resolved "amicably" the problem of landlocked Bolivia and end a conflict that dates back to 1879.
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino, speaking at the XL OAS General Assembly taking place in Lima, supported the demand by Bolivia to Chile for an outlet to the sea, in the framework of "mutual understanding" and accompanying the international community.
"We hope that as soon as possible to find a friendly and a process of dialogue as an exit from our brother landlocked country of Bolivia," he said.
The Pacific War broke out in 1879 and still remains in force in the three countries, particularly Peru and Bolivia who have lost significant territory to Chile.
Bolivian President Evo Morales said earlier this month, the personal friendship of recent data, that binds to its counterpart in Chile, Sebastián Piñera, and transcending, he stressed, ideology and class issues as a basis for bilateral dialogue project resume.
"Luckily we had a good friendship with the current President" Pinera said while confirming that the governments of both countries resumed within mediate "negotiations" on the bilateral basis of the 13-point agenda which includes the maritime claim centenary a sovereign outlet to the Pacific and La Paz and Santiago negotiated without haste or pause since 2006.
According to the Consulate of Bolivia in Chile the first days of July, will resume this dialogue in Santiago.
