Ciudad Juarez, Agency
Hundreds of people beat two suspected kidnappers arrested by Federal Police to death in Ascencion, a town in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, municipal police said.

Federal Police officers on Tuesday arrested three suspected kidnappers and freed a 17-year-old girl allegedly abducted by the men, the Ascencion police department said.

A mob decided to take justice into its own hands, grabbing the suspects and beating two of them to death, police said.

"The kidnappers died as a result of the beating," a police spokesman said, adding that residents nearly set fire to the men's bodies, but officers managed to get them inside a patrol car.

The third suspect survived the beating and was taken to Ciudad Juarez.

Ascencion is about 168 kilometers (104 miles) from Ciudad Juarez, which is located across the border from El Paso, Texas.

Municipal police, a special operations unit and Federal Police officers were sent to the town to guard the bodies.
