Mexico City, Agency
Miss Universe 2010, Mexico's Jimena Navarrete, met with the president of her country, Felipe Calderon, at the Los Pinos presidential residence, officials said.
The 22-year-old native of Jalisco state chatted with the president and first lady Margarita Zavala during her visit Monday to Los Pinos, which is in Mexico City.

Mexico's other Miss Universe winner, Lupita Jones, who won the title in 1991, also attended the meeting.

Jones has been in charge of selecting and training the young women who represent Mexico in the beauty contest for the past 17 years.

Navarrete's victory provides "encouragement for the millions of Mexican women who have stood out as a result of their own efforts," Calderon said.

The president congratulated the beauty queen for making Mexico look good in the eyes of the world.

Navarrete, who won her title in Las Vegas last month, will be a guest of honor at the bicentennial celebrations this week in Mexico.

The beauty queen, who was born in Guadalajara on Feb. 22, 1988, is studying for a degree in nutrition.

She won the Miss Jalisco beauty contest in 2009 and represented her state in Mexico's national contest the same year, taking first place and winning the right to represent her country at Miss Universe 2010.
