Circus abandons 10 African lions at Argentine campsite

Ten African lions were abandoned by a circus at a campsite outside the Argentine city of Florencio Varela, where they were taken over by local authorities.

Florencio Varela residents complained about there being lions at the campsite, and, because of the danger of leaving the carnivores in a public area, the authorities had them transported to a nearby zoo, acccording to officials at the Agrarian Affairs Ministry in Buenos Aires province.

Apparently the managers of the Houdini Circus had scheduled their show for the Buenos Aires city of Cañuelas, but the authorities of that municipality refused to let them enter with the animals. They therefore decided to leave two men in charge of the lions in Florencio Varela at the campsite of that rural area.

The felines, which are in perfect health, were left behind by the circus about one month ago.
